John Berger

William J. (John) Berger

Chairman, President and CEO

John is President and Chief Executive Officer of Sunnova Energy Corporation, the leading privately-held U.S. residential solar and storage service provider whose technology-enabled service platform is centered on providing a better service at a better price through its unique 25-year service commitment with every homeowner’s customized solar or solar + storage system. With more than two decades of experience across various sectors of the energy industry, John is an energy entrepreneur who has always supported free market competition, consumer choice and the advancement of energy technology to power energy independence. Before Sunnova, John served as Founder and Chief Executive Officer at SunCap Financial, a residential solar system lease provider. He also founded Standard Renewable Energy (SRE), a top-10 provider of renewable energy and energy-efficient products and services. John received his MBA from Harvard Business School and graduated cum laude from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering.

Robert L. Lane

Robert L. Lane

Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Lane has served as Sunnova’s Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer since he joined Sunnova in May 2019. Prior to joining Sunnova, Mr. Lane served as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Spark Energy, Inc., a publicly traded retail energy services company, from June 2016 to April 2019. Mr. Lane previously served as the Chief Financial Officer of Emerge Energy Services GP, LLC, the general partner of Emerge Energy Services LP, from November 2012 to June 2015. From December 2011 to November 2012, Mr. Lane was a Managing Director at Global Hunter Securities LLC, where he was responsible for the origination and execution of capital markets and M&A transactions in the midstream industry. Mr. Lane previously served in various roles, most recently as Managing Director, of Sanders Morris Harris Inc. and its affiliates from November 2004 to December 2011, where he led equity research and then investment banking coverage of midstream energy companies, particularly master limited partnerships. Mr. Lane is a Certified Public Accountant and a Chartered Financial Analyst. Mr. Lane received his MBA from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School and his Bachelor of Arts degree from Princeton University. He also received a Certificate in the Accountancy Program from the B.T. Bauer School of Business at the University of Houston.

Drew Baker

Walter (Drew) Baker

Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary

Drew serves as the chief legal and compliance officer of the company, managing all legal and compliance matters and providing counsel and advice to company management and employees. Prior to joining Sunnova, Drew served as Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary at Atwood Oceanics, Inc., where he also served as Chief Compliance Officer. He brings over three decades of legal experience at both public and private entities, with significant experience in corporate governance, serving as the Corporate Secretary for several companies in the international offshore drilling industry. Drew has a proven track record in leading successful securities, bank financings and mergers and acquisitions, as well as providing general legal support to corporate functions. He has led the legal and compliance departments of two large international companies and played an integral role in four public mergers with over $65 billion in enterprise value. Drew received his Juris Doctor from the University of Texas at Austin and graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts from Vanderbilt University.

Stuart Allen

Executive Vice President, Human Resources

Stuart leads Sunnova’s global human resources, training, labor relations and administrative functions and oversees the cultivation of Sunnova’s culture and employee engagement. Prior to joining Sunnova, Stuart served as Vice President of Human Resources and Administrative services at Atwood Oceanics. Stuart has over three decades of experience in various industries including, minerals extraction and offshore drilling. He has held senior positions in operations and general management, human resources, organizational development, labor relations, training and administrative roles. He brings to Sunnova a strong track record of transforming multi-national organizations into customer focused, high performance enterprises. Stuart holds a Master’s Degree in Industrial Relations, a Post Graduate Degree in Education, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Physiology and Industrial Relations from the University of Western Australia.

Michael Grasso

Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer

Michael is accelerating energy choice, reliability and independence through Sunnova's innovative products, marketing and business development strategies in support of the strategic vision and growth of the company. He brings more than two decades of experience scaling companies into market leaders in the energy, financial services, internet, video and telecommunications industries. Michael was instrumental in establishing market leading brands while serving as Chief Marketing Officer for both Sunrun and TXU Energy. Previously, he was Senior Vice President of brand management with USAA and, prior to that, held multiple executive positions at AT&T. Michael earned his Master of Science degree in Telecommunications Management from Washington University and his Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Science and Applied Statistics from St. Mary’s University.

Kris Hillstrand

Executive Vice President of Technology and Service Operations

Kris is responsible for information technology, asset management and customer service at Sunnova—central competencies to Sunnova’s mission to power energy independence. He has 28 years of experience leading firms in technology, power generation and energy services. Prior to joining Sunnova, Kris held Chief Information Officer and Chief Operating Officer COO roles at TXU Corp (now Oncor/Vistra/TXU Energy), Deloitte and Accenture. His experience includes corporate restructuring, industrial scale operations management and the delivery of multichannel customer engagement and retail energy management solutions. Kris earned his MBA in finance, and Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree in computer science and electrical engineering from the University of Connecticut.

Meghan Nutting

Executive Vice President, Policy and Communications

Meghan collaborates with industry leaders, state and federal policymakers, national media and regulators to craft and implement policies and communications that provide a more stable and sustainable business environment for Sunnova. Meghan has worked diligently with political leaders and community stakeholders across the United States since Hurricanes Irma and Maria devastated Puerto Rico to ensure that residents have access to resilient solar + storage solutions. Prior to Sunnova, Meghan served as the Director of Policy and Electricity Markets at SolarCity. Before that, she worked as a legislative director for a State Assembly member and as a press secretary for a former U.S. Senator. Meghan has also held policy positions at the World Bank; the British Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs; as well several environmental organizations. Nutting received a Master of Public Affairs from Princeton University and a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Cornell University.

John Santo

John Santo Salvo

Executive Vice President of Channel Operations and Chief Procurement Officer

John propels forward Sunnova’s best-in-class operations team and works diligently to continue bolstering Sunnova’s broad network of trusted and qualified channel partners across the U.S. Before joining the Sunnova team, John held positions at Dresser-Rand Corporation overseeing the global technical field services as well as the global transportation and logistics side of the organization. During his career, John has led technical services organizations to grow revenues 30% and margins 20% in four years, and he has planned, scoped and negotiated a $985M performance logistics contract, the largest of its kind in Navy history, which provided supply support to the entire Navy Super Hornet fleet of aircraft. John is a 25-year veteran of the United States Navy, retiring with the rank of Commander in 2008. He holds an MBA from the University of Kansas and is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy.
