What is a production guarantee?

For most home solar energy plans, Sunnova offers a production guarantee – we guarantee your home solar system will produce a certain amount of energy each year.

A home solar production guarantee gives you the confidence that your home solar system will perform as expected. We predict the amount of energy your home solar system should produce each year based on your geographical location, weather trends, the type of solar system you have installed, the size of your home, and other factors.

That prediction is then guaranteed, which means that if your solar system doesn’t meet the production outlined in your solar energy agreement, you will be reimbursed the difference between your home solar system’s actual production and the production guaranteed.

Sunnova will review your home solar system’s performance on a periodic basis.

  • If your home solar system produced less than the guaranteed amount, we’ll refund or credit you the difference usually starting at the end of year three.
  • If your home solar system produced more than the guaranteed amount, you won’t owe us any extra money—we “bank” the overproduction for future years in which your system may produce less than we guaranteed.

You will likely receive a credit only if your system is routinely underperforming.

Review your solar energy plan for details regarding your production guarantee, including when the production assessments will occur. Sunnova customers in Florida, Guam, Saipan, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico are not eligible for a production guarantee.
